Come enjoy the wonderful art of Taijiquan 太極拳 (tai chi)! Michael Blackburn is a patient, diligent and highly skilled teacher with nearly 30 years of international training. All students engage at their own level, speed and individual learning styles. Regular classes are Tuesday evenings at Dunbar Community Centre and Sunday mornings at Glen Park (East Van)
LINEAGE
Michael has trained extensively in China, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, the USA and other places around the world.
In the Yang (楊氏) tradition, he began his study with Sam Slutsky (http://www.samslutsky.com/), senior student of Lee Shiupak. More recently, his main Yang style teacher has been Sam Masich (http://sammasich.com/), with whom Michael has explored the entire traditional Yang curriculum. Michael has also studied in Asia and North America with several Yang style experts, including Yang Zhenduo and Yang Jun.
In the Chen (陳氏) style, Michael continues to deepen his practice through annual extensive workshops with expert instructors, including Chen Xiaoxing, Chen Zhenglei, Chen Xiaowang, Chen Bin and Chen Ziqiang. Michael has traveled to Chenjiagao, the historic birthplace of taijiquan (t'ai chi) for intensive study with the top teachers in the world.
